Sophomore first baseman Gavin Garay was drafted in the 26th round (787nd pick) by the New York Mets. The graduating sophomore hit .357 with 40 RBI's and 24 extra base hits and received first team All-Conference honors.
"Very happy for Gavin. He walked on with us this year and was not guaranteed a spot on the team. He worked all fall to improve his body and secure a spot on the team and in the lineup. He finished the year as our 4-hole hitter and earned every at bat he was given." said Coach Ryan Beckman was asked about Garay's draft.
Prior to the draft Gavin signed with the University of North Florida to continue his career as a student/athlete.
