On what was a great day for tennis this past Friday at Treausure Bay, the Titans of St. Petersburg College were successful in their home opener. The Titans (3-1) posted a 9-0 shutout over the visiting Titans of Eastern Florida State College. "I was pleased with the progress of this team" Coach Phil Girardi said afterwards, "A 9-0 victory doesn't come very often in our conference." The Sophomore team of Robyn Hancock and Karla Ortega were spectacular stepping up at #3 doubles. "I think we are starting to get the right mentality to play our matches," Girardi said, "It's a long season and we've had a good start." The Titans have been on the road the past few weeks and so they have been tested early on but, this team is talented with seasoned veterans ready to make a push for post-season play later in the season. The Titans of St. Petersburg College return to action this week when they host the visiting Manatees of State College of Florida. First serve is set for 3pm and admission is always free.
